The smart home industry is moving quickly, and it's hard to keep track of what's available for home security and comfort, what's good, and what should be avoided.
We've tested 16 smart light bulbs or nearly 30 if you count the ones from our initial roundup back in and used them side-by-side to compare usability, responsiveness, compatibility with WiFi connections, and ease of setup.

Across the board, the Philips Hue topped all of our tests thanks to an easy setup, a robust suite of features, and an intuitive app. Additional support with smart assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri adds tremendous benefit to an already impressive portfolio.
Once you throw in the additional rainbow of possible light colors, these are without a doubt the best smart bulbs you can buy. The only downside is that unlike some other options, the Hue lightbulbs do require a hub in order to work. Philips also continues to sell its second-gen starter kitwhich was our previous Best Overall pick.
The only difference between them is that the third-gen kit comes with "richer color" lightbulbs. Eufy's Lumos 2.
Eufy's app is really confusing. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to even dim the Eufy Lumos 2. As for the bulb's features, we didn't feel there was anything particularly noteworthy about its design or capabilities. However, it did have good response times over the WiFi network and data connections, and it integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant without having to install a hub.
The cost per bulb was among the most affordable we tested, and there's no need to spend extra money and space on a hub to get the connectivity you want. So, despite the wonky setup process and mild learning curve, this is a good bulb for the money and a great pick for those in need of a basic white smart bulb that won't cost a lot. To find out which smart bulb is the very best on the market today, we bought the bestselling, highest rated bulbs and tested them in an actual home, with a regular router, in a typical lamp.
After spending a few years testing and writing about smart bulbs, we've learned a few things that can help you decide which smart bulb to buy, and what to expect from your purchase. Setting up a smart bulb goes a bit beyond simply screwing the light bulb into a socket and calling it a day. Now, there's the question of whether or not it needs a "hub," works via Bluetooth, or can function on your WiFi network alone.
Smart bulbs that work with a hub are most common. Once you've set up a hub, you'll go through an in-app setup process to identify your bulbs, assign them to rooms, and give you full control over their features. Smart bulbs can do much more than turn your lights on or off via your phone or a smart speaker. Outside of color and brightness, most smart light bulbs will have additional options for creating scenes or setting schedules. Scenes are pre-existing or custom settings of color and brightness that you can easily select—making it a snap to change your room from a bright white light to a soothing dim blue that's easier on the eyes.
Schedules are exactly what it sounds like. Just be careful not to flip the physical light switch off—this shuts down the bulb's connection to the app and assistants. The Lifx bulbs offer something rather unique in that it has an app for Microsoft phones as well as iOS and Android.
And if your Nest Protect smart smoke alarm detects a problem, you can set Lifx to blink in response. Our only gripe with this budget pick is how long it took for commands from the app to register on the bulb itself, but it really was only an issue when it came to dimming. We found lots to love about the Sengled A19 smart bulb. The setup process was quick, and the app is intuitive.Like, are these all names of different divisions within one company, or of different companies under one umbrella company, or simply different names for the same company?
This is not necessarily intended as a discussion about any of their hardware or software, but please feel free to mention them as is necessary in any explanation you may be willing to offer. Tuya Smart and Smartlife are the same company just different versions of the app like smartthings and smartthings classic.
Geeni Smarthome and Merkury Innovations are the same company Geeni is just a brand name of Mercury but they are not with Tuya. Tuya just does the devices and software for them. Thank you! If you look at the Geeni Smarthome website about us page it says its by Mercury. And the Tuya website says that they make custom apps and devices for companys. How i discovered this is that i bought a wifi smartplug from a thrift shop and the app for it was missing.
Since i already had a Geeni plug i tried to try and pair the unknown plug to the Geeni app and to my surprise it worked. So i researched why and found out that both plugs were based of Tuya software. If you look at most cheep wifi smart home devices chances are they use Tuya software.
OK, great. Thanks for sharing your findings. I guess this sort of thing probably goes on a lot in the industry and in electronics manufacturing, in generalhuh? And Maytag itself is just one of several brands made by Whirlpool, while Frigidaire is owned by Electrolux. As we have discussed many times in the forum, Nortek, one of the largest manufacturers of Z wave devices, often sold the exact same device under five or six different brand names, literally just with a different label on it.
Jasco is another Home automation manufacturer who makes the same device and then sells it under different names or provides it to other companies to sell under their own name. I think they also used to make the DragonTech models. Nowadays there is yet another complication as many Chinese factories Will offer the exact same physical case to multiple clients, resulting in devices which look identical but which may have different internal parts or firmware.

So nothing to test with. I can say with confidence minimal changes would be necessary as it started life in ST before I moved on. It is not pretty but gets the job done reliably. I had actually hoped someone with more skills than I would pick it up and run with it. Anyone get this ported over to ST? There was some success flashing tasmota firmware on these devices and using hubitat driver for direct integration. Actually there is a way to make it work. Just link Honeywell total connect comfort works with Smartthings by integrating the login credentials they can do the same with Geeni.
Just have to push both sides for the integration. Geeni is one of those brands that you never heard of, but suddenly they are everywhere. So if you can make a device handler bu copy paste form gethum then this is a task you should be able to do no problem. Final tip: If it is not working after your done, you may need to disable Smartthings in your Alexa App and then re enable it.
I understand the creating a virtual switch; but how are you then tieing the Merkury bulbs into the switch? Did you or anyone else figure this out yet? The Alexa integration is there now but not sure how to get these into SmartThings.
